Convert Demo (.dem) file to a video

After you’ve recorded your demo/video (To know how to record your video/demo click here) in Counter-Strike it can only be seen in-game. To view it in your media player or upload it on YouTube you’ll need to convert it into a media format. Here’s how to render the demo (.dem) file to produce a series of images.

Start your Counter-Strike game.

Start playing your demo file. As soon as the demo starts playing type in console “startmovie ” where filename can be any name you want and fps is the number of frames to be recorded per second (For eg; “startmovie a 30”).This will start saving rendered images as a00001.bmp, a00002.bmp,….. and so on in your cstrike folder.
The game fps may drop to a great extent but no need to worry it won’t effect your video.

If you want to stop recording type in console “endmovie”.
Now this will produce thousands of images in your cstrike folder.

Now you need to convert these images into a video. You’ll need to download an image to video converting software (Click here to download VideoMach). It is an easy to use software which converts images to video formats.

After you’ve downloaded the software open it up and click on File tab and select Open Media Files. Browse to the cstrike folder and select the first image i.e. a00001.bmp, then the software will ask you to open the entire sequence starting with this image name, click ok.
Now select the File tab and click Save As. Browse the output location and in video format select avi.
Click start button and your done.

The video file will be created in some time depending upon the length of the video. You can edit your video and add sounds to it and upload it to YouTube.
